Food Technology
Developing a passion for food and an understanding of how to prepare nutritious meals for themselves and others is a vital part of healthy living and student wellbeing. The Food Technology curriculum offers students the opportunity to learn a range of skills and develop knowledge through a broad range of topics. Students gain competency with a wide range of ingredients, equipment and processes through practical tasks, adapting recipes and through investigation.
Food safety and hygiene underpins all practical sessions and students have ample opportunity to develop their awareness and practice their skills. Students are also given the opportunity to explore a wide range of cultural dishes including considering the origin of the dish and the culture it is part of. Students are also taught about nutritional considerations, local and seasonal products, with a focus on sharing food and enjoying the social experience of eating together.
